Comedian Carrot Top, whose real name is Scott Thompson, was hospitalized in Las Vegas on Friday after attempting suicide, according to multiple outlets including TMZ and Billboard. The 61-year-old comedian's Friday and Saturday shows at the Luxor were both canceled as a result.

Thompson's representative, Jami Schlicher, confirmed the hospitalization in a statement: "Mr. Thompson is recovering in the hospital and is receiving the care and support he needs," Schlicher said, asking for privacy and adding that his family and those closest to him "are deeply grateful for the concern and prayers."

Thompson has headlined at the Luxor for more than 20 years, making him the longest-running headlining comedian on the Las Vegas Strip, according to TheWrap. No details about his current condition or an expected return date for his residency have been released.

Known for his signature prop-comedy act built around a trunk of self-invented gadgets, Thompson has been a fixture of Las Vegas entertainment since the early 2000s and has made numerous television and film appearances over a career spanning more than three decades.

The Luxor has not announced whether or when Thompson's residency will resume. Well-wishes have poured in from fellow comedians and fans since the news broke.
