Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson said Monday that quarterback Caleb Williams is "week-to-week" with a right hamstring injury, throwing the team's plans for next Monday night's game against the Eagles into question, according to NFL.com.

Williams was hurt midway through the fourth quarter of Sunday's 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings at Soldier Field, scrambling around left end on a first-and-goal play from the 6-yard line with Chicago trailing 6-3, per the team's own injury report.

Encouraging, but no timetable

Johnson told reporters he doesn't expect Williams to practice this week but stopped short of ruling the 2024 No. 1 overall pick out for the Eagles game entirely. "We'll see where he's at as the week progresses and how long that means," Johnson said, adding that early testing was "somewhat encouraging."

According to ESPN's reporting, Williams appears to have avoided a season-ending or multi-week soft-tissue tear, but the Bears are bracing to be without their starter for at least some portion of the coming weeks. If Williams can't go, backup Tyson Bagent — who has spot-started for Chicago before — would take over behind center.

Williams, the former USC Heisman Trophy winner, has been the centerpiece of Chicago's rebuild since being drafted first overall in 2024. Losing him for any stretch is a real blow for a Bears team that has leaned on his mobility and improvisational playmaking to stay competitive, including in Sunday's low-scoring defensive slugfest against Minnesota.

The Bears are expected to provide updates on Williams' status throughout the week as they prepare to host the Eagles on Monday Night Football at Soldier Field.
