The World Series shifts to Florida Monday night with the Milwaukee Brewers holding a commanding 2-0 lead over the Tampa Bay Rays, needing just one more win at Tropicana Field to clinch the franchise's first championship in its history. Game 3 is set for tonight in St. Petersburg, with Game 4 to follow Tuesday at the same ballpark.

Milwaukee rolled into the Series as the National League champions after posting the best record in Major League Baseball during the 2026 regular season, and the Brewers carried that momentum through the first two games, both played at home in Milwaukee. Tampa Bay, meanwhile, is making just the third World Series appearance in franchise history, having won the American League pennant by beating Cleveland in the ALCS. The Rays' two previous trips to the Fall Classic, in 2008 and 2020, both ended in losses — and the franchise has never won a title.

History on the Line

For Milwaukee, the stakes are just as steep from the other direction. The Brewers franchise, which has played in the majors since 1969, has never won a World Series, and a trip to the Series itself remains a relatively rare event in the club's history. A sweep or a five-game series win would cap one of the most dominant seasons in franchise history with the one trophy that has eluded the organization for more than five decades.

ONE WIN FROM A TITLE NO BREWERS TEAM HAS EVER BROUGHT HOME

Shifting the series to Tropicana Field gives the Rays a chance to feed off a home crowd desperate to see their team avoid an outright sweep, and Tampa Bay will be leaning on the comforts of a stadium where it posted a strong record during the regular season. Still, a team facing a 2-0 deficit in a best-of-seven World Series has historically faced long odds of coming back, and Milwaukee's pitching staff and lineup have given the Brewers the edge for most of October.

Both clubs have had an extended road to get here. Milwaukee dispatched its National League playoff opponents convincingly on the way to the pennant, while Tampa Bay needed a full six-game American League Championship Series to get past Cleveland. That gave the Brewers a few extra days of rest heading into Game 1 — an advantage some analysts have pointed to in explaining Milwaukee's strong start to the Series.

If the Rays can find a way to win tonight, the series would head to a pivotal Game 4 on Tuesday still in Tampa, with Milwaukee looking to close it out away from home. Either way, a champion could be crowned at Tropicana Field as early as this week.
