The Seattle Seahawks opened their season with a Super Bowl LX rematch against the New England Patriots on Wednesday night — and needed a backup quarterback to pull it off, rallying from a 10-0 deficit to win 13-10 after starter Sam Darnold left with a hip injury.

Darnold, who started last season's Super Bowl-winning run, was sacked by Patriots defensive lineman Dre'Mont Jones on Seattle's opening drive and was ruled out just before halftime after playing only six snaps, according to NFL.com.

Backup Drew Lock took over and finished 16-of-22 for 187 yards and a touchdown, steering Seattle to 13 unanswered points after the Patriots had built a 10-0 lead through three quarters. Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught eight of 11 targets for 122 yards, including a game-tying 45-yard touchdown on fourth-and-1, according to ESPN's game recap.

New England's night unraveled in the fourth quarter, when quarterback Drake Maye threw three interceptions — including a toe-tap pick in the end zone by cornerback Josh Jobe that sealed the win, according to NBC News. Nehemiah Pritchett and Julian Love also intercepted Maye in the fourth quarter.

The Patriots' marquee offseason addition, wide receiver A.J. Brown, managed just three catches for 26 yards before an ankle injury ended his debut in the third quarter.

Macdonald credited Lock for stepping in cold and avoiding the kind of mistakes that could have buried Seattle against a divisional-caliber Patriots defense, calling him "a Seahawk through and through" after the game.

What's next: Darnold's hip injury timeline is now the story to watch in Seattle, with Lock the presumptive starter for Week 2 if Darnold isn't cleared in time.
