Ryan Reynolds turned 50 on Friday, a milestone the actor has been joking his way toward for weeks rather than dreading quietly.

At a recent red-carpet stop promoting his film "Mayday" alongside co-star Kenneth Branagh, Reynolds pointed at his own face and deadpanned, "This is scaffolding," telling Entertainment Tonight he'd already had "lip work" done twice that day, with Branagh playing along by suggesting the second attempt had done the trick. Asked separately about his birthday plans, Reynolds said he'd rather keep things low-key than throw a blowout, telling PEOPLE "I don't like birthdays" but that he was "fine with it" either way.

Deadpool, Wrexham and a house of six

Reynolds, born in Vancouver, British Columbia, built his career from early sitcom and teen-movie roles into the "Deadpool" franchise, which he also helped produce and market through his Maximum Effort company — the same outfit behind marketing campaigns for Aviation Gin and Mint Mobile, two companies Reynolds co-owned before their sales. He's also co-owner, with Rob McElhenney, of Welsh football club Wrexham AFC, whose matches have become a regular family outing; wife Blake Lively shared photos of the couple with their children at a Wrexham match against Liverpool FC at Yankee Stadium this past August.

"THIS IS SCAFFOLDING" — REYNOLDS, POINTING AT HIS OWN FACE

Reynolds and Lively, married since 2012, have four children together: son James, born in December 2014; daughter Inez, born in September 2016; daughter Betty, born in October 2019; and son Olin, born in early 2023, whose name wasn't made public until the couple's 2024 press tour for "Deadpool & Wolverine." The couple have kept their kids largely out of the spotlight even as both parents' public profiles have grown.

Turning 50 puts Reynolds in company with other Hollywood names marking the same milestone this year, including Cillian Murphy, part of a wave of stars born in 1976 now crossing into their second half-century. For Reynolds, at least publicly, the mood seems to be more punchline than crisis.
