Jodie Turner-Smith, the actress best known for Queen & Slim, was named this week in a Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit filed by three women identified only as Jane Does, who accuse her brother, Richard Smith, of pressuring them into drug use and nonconsensual sexual activity at parties across the city.

According to the complaint filed Thursday, the women allege Richard Smith invited them to gatherings where they encountered narcotics, firearms and sexual activity, with one plaintiff claiming she was isolated in a bedroom in June 2024 and pressured into non-consensual acts. The suit lists claims including sexual battery, false imprisonment and intentional infliction of emotional distress against Smith.

Turner-Smith's alleged role

The lawsuit doesn't stop at Richard Smith. It also targets Turner-Smith directly, alleging she financially supported her brother's activities — including housing, transportation and what the suit calls a drug-trafficking operation, according to Variety's report on the filing. One plaintiff claims Smith told her Turner-Smith knew about — and even used cocaine during — his alleged drug operation, and that the actress had gifted him an Audi allegedly used to transport narcotics. The complaint also accuses her of property negligence, child endangerment and aiding and abetting.

"This is a fictional lawsuit filed by someone who has been harassing Jodie while hiding behind the name Jane Doe. The claims are not true. This is an abuse of the legal system, allowing someone to make up facts and file meritless legal documents."

That statement, issued by a representative for Turner-Smith and reported by TMZ, suggests her team believes a single accuser may be behind multiple Jane Doe filings rather than three distinct women. Neither Richard Smith nor an attorney for the plaintiffs has issued a public statement.

Turner-Smith, 39, rose to fame opposite Daniel Kaluuya in 2019's "Queen & Slim" and later starred in Netflix's "Anne Boleyn" and AMC's "Anna." She finalized her divorce from actor Joshua Jackson in 2024 after four years of marriage. No criminal charges have been filed against either Smith or Turner-Smith; the case remains a civil matter working through Los Angeles Superior Court.

The lawsuit lands at an inconvenient moment for Turner-Smith, who has projects in the pipeline and has largely kept a low public profile since her split from Jackson. It's unclear when the case will next appear before a judge, but legal observers say discovery — and any depositions — could keep the allegations in headlines for months.
