Kelly Clarkson's viral spat with a Brooklyn toy and magic shop has curdled into something uglier: the store's co-owner says employees are now receiving death threats and getting confronted in person by people defending the singer.

The feud began Oct. 10, when Clarkson posted on X that a salesperson at Art of Play had treated her as though she "couldn't afford" the merchandise and offered to find her "something comparable," according to CTV News. The item in question, nicknamed "Molly," is a one-of-a-kind singing and dancing bird automaton the shop uses in its in-store magic performances; the store says it's permanently attached to the wall and was never for sale.

Clarkson posted a photo of a $15,000 price tag next to the automaton, accusing the shop of lying to her. The store has said a comparable piece by a Seattle-based maker does sell for roughly that price, and that staff had instead offered Clarkson a roughly $2,000 German-made alternative — not the display piece itself, according to TheWrap.

"KELLY CLARKSON HAS PUT US IN DANGER."

That's the blunt assessment Art of Play co-owner Adam Rubin gave Billboard this week, describing a flood of threatening messages to staff, people showing up at the shop to confront workers, and harassment spilling over onto neighboring businesses on Atlantic Avenue — a spillover effect confirmed independently by the local business improvement district's executive director, per the New Zealand Herald. The shop says it has turned off its phone because of the volume of messages.

Clarkson, for her part, wrote on X: "Wow, dude. You're an idiot and just lost a huge sale," followed by, "So you're not only rude, you're also a liar. Got it," and, "You don't get a free pass to treat people less than in your store just because you are a small business." She has not publicly addressed the threats against the shop's staff.

The store, in an Instagram statement, said it had been "suddenly attacked by 8 million people" who had never set foot inside. No police action or lawsuit has been confirmed as of this writing, and the threat figures cited by Rubin come from the store's own account rather than independent law-enforcement confirmation.
