Tyler Boebert, the 21-year-old son of Rep. Lauren Boebert, has accepted a plea deal in a Weld County child abuse case after his young son was twice found wandering unsupervised near their Colorado home.

Tyler pleaded guilty to child abuse/negligence without injury, and prosecutors are recommending a sentence capped at 30 days in jail plus 12 months of supervised probation and a court-ordered parenting program, according to TMZ. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Sept. 4.

Two Incidents, One Toddler

The case dates to July 2025, when authorities say Tyler's baby was found wandering alone in the neighborhood. Prosecutors say a similar incident had occurred about a month earlier, when the child was found unattended and wearing only a diaper after a neighbor spotted him. Before the second incident became public, Rep. Boebert had defended her son publicly, saying "Tyler has been doing a great job getting his life on track as a father and citizen over the past year," and later described the July episode as stemming from "a miscommunication on monitoring my young grandson."

The plea deal resolves only part of Tyler's legal exposure. He separately faces felony charges of sexual exploitation of a child in neighboring Garfield County, stemming from a video he says he filmed years earlier with a girlfriend who was, according to Colorado Public Radio, weeks away from turning 18 at the time. That case moved forward after the ex-girlfriend went to police once the footage leaked to third parties; it remains pending and is unaffected by Wednesday's plea in the neglect case.

With sentencing in the neglect case set for next month and the felony case still working through Garfield County courts, Tyler Boebert's legal troubles are far from over — and continue to trail his mother's political career at a time when she's running to reclaim a U.S. House seat.
