Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker drilled a jaw-dropping 69-yard field goal as time expired in the first half of Saturday night's preseason game — then watched his team blow a 9-0 lead and lose to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 16-15.

The kick sailed through with distance to spare; analytics writer Warren Sharp said it "would be good from 75 yards easy." It won't go in any record book, though — the game was preseason, and the official NFL regular-season mark belongs to Jacksonville's Cam Little, who hit a 68-yarder in November 2025, breaking Justin Tucker's 66-yard record from 2021. Little also owns the longest field goal in any organized game, a 70-yarder in a 2025 preseason contest, according to CBS Sports.

The kick that wasn't enough

Butker's night went sideways after halftime: he missed the extra point and later shanked a potential go-ahead 43-yard attempt, opening the door for Tampa Bay's comeback. Rookie quarterback play helped the Buccaneers rally for the win, according to CBS Sports' game recap.

"THAT'S WHAT I CARE ABOUT, NOT THE 69-YARDER OR WHATEVER IT WAS." — HARRISON BUTKER

Butker downplayed the highlight in his postgame comments, saying he was far more bothered by the misses than proud of the long boot, per Yahoo Sports. Former coach Jon Gruden, calling the game, quipped on the broadcast: "He'll kick your Butker! 69-yarder from the Chiefs kicker!!"

Butker already holds the Chiefs' franchise long at 62 yards. With preseason wrapping up ahead of final roster cuts, his leg becomes a subplot for how Kansas City deploys him once the games start counting.
