Como Humiliates Manchester United 4-1 in Champions League, Red Devils Winless in Seven
Teenage sensation Nico Paz scored twice and set up another as newly-promoted Como dismantled Manchester United in Italy, extending the Red Devils' winless run to seven matches across all competitions.
COMO, ITALY — Como 1907, playing in its first-ever Champions League campaign, humiliated Manchester United 4-1 at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on Wednesday, handing the storied English club its seventh straight match without a win across all competitions.
Nico Paz, the 19-year-old on loan from Real Madrid, scored twice — once in the second minute and again in the 57th — and set up Anastasios Douvikas's 49th-minute goal as Como blitzed United from the opening whistle. Jacobo Ramón added a fourth in the 76th minute before Joshua Zirkzee scored a consolation goal for United in stoppage time. Como led 1-0 at halftime and never looked back, finishing with 55% possession despite United out-shooting the hosts 13 to 11 overall.

A Historic First Meeting
The result made Como the 77th different club to face Manchester United in the history of the European Cup and Champions League — and the first to beat the Red Devils by more than two goals in a first-ever meeting between the two clubs. Como, which only won promotion back to Italy's Serie A in 2024 and secured Champions League qualification for the first time in club history this season, had its newly renovated Sinigaglia stadium approved by UEFA for European nights just weeks before Wednesday's match.
For United, the defeat piles further pressure on the club's management after a winless stretch spanning seven matches in all competitions. The club's own match report offered little in the way of silver lining beyond Zirkzee's late consolation goal and Bruno Fernandes's continued industry in midfield. The loss leaves United 20th in the 36-team Champions League table through three matchdays, in danger of missing the knockout playoff round entirely if results don't turn around quickly.
What's Next
United returns to Premier League action this weekend looking to snap its winless run before a daunting run of fixtures, while Como — unbeaten through its first taste of European competition — will look to build on Wednesday's statement result when continental play resumes next month. Wednesday's matchday also saw Real Madrid rout RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich battle Arsenal to a back-and-forth draw, but neither result generated the shockwaves of Como's rout of one of the competition's most decorated clubs.
