Enes Kanter Freedom's night at a WNBA game ended with security walking him out of the arena after a heated courtside confrontation with Chicago Sky guard Natasha Cloud.

The former NBA center was sitting courtside Sunday night during the Indiana Fever's 113-90 win over the Sky, wearing a T-shirt reading "WOMAN noun. adult human female." — a message tied to ongoing debates over transgender athletes in women's sports. Late in the third quarter, with 1:22 remaining, Cloud scored a basket near where Kanter Freedom was seated, then turned, yelled and pointed at him before walking toward the stands, according to ESPN. Kanter Freedom held his arms out and stepped onto the court as security and several Sky players moved in to separate the two.

Ejected on the spot

A game official signaled for Kanter Freedom's ejection, and arena security escorted him from his seat before the game resumed, CBS Sports reported, confirming the timing and sequence of the incident.

Cloud addressed the confrontation after the game, telling reporters Kanter Freedom has "no idea what it means to walk my journey," according to CNN's recap of her postgame comments. Cloud has been an outspoken advocate on social and political issues throughout her WNBA career and has repeatedly clashed publicly with critics of her activism.

Kanter Freedom, who played parts of 11 NBA seasons before becoming a US citizen and a vocal commentator on human rights and political issues, has increasingly used courtside appearances at games to make statements via his clothing. Neither the WNBA nor the Sky organization issued an immediate statement on whether Kanter Freedom would face any further consequences, such as a ban from future games at the arena.
