Cher has filed new court documents seeking to block her estranged daughter-in-law, Marieangela King, from being appointed guardian over her son Elijah Blue Allman, escalating a legal battle over who should oversee the musician's care and finances.

Elijah Blue, Cher's son with the late Gregg Allman, has struggled publicly with mental health and substance abuse issues and currently resides at a psychiatric facility. A hearing scheduled for September 1 to determine King's fitness to serve as guardian was pushed back to December 1 after Elijah failed to appear, according to Rolling Stone.

Cher's filing argues King is pursuing the role "for fame and financial gain" and cites the couple's on-and-off divorce proceedings — filed in 2021 and again in 2025, both later dismissed — as evidence of instability in the relationship. King has argued she should be allowed to oversee her husband's finances rather than ceding control to his mother.
