Perez Hilton's family is offering the fullest account yet of what happened the night the celebrity blogger's disturbing livestream alarmed followers and drew a police response to his Miami home — and the physical toll was worse than first known.

Tom, the husband of Hilton's sister Barbara Lavandeira, told TMZ that Hilton, 48, suffered multiple broken bones and cuts after falling several times during the episode, in which the 48-year-old appeared to harm himself on camera. Authorities had earlier said Hilton was hospitalized following reports of the livestreamed self-harm, a response first detailed by NBC News and corroborated by local station ABC7.

What the family says now

Speaking on "The Perez Hilton Podcast with Chris Booker," Tom said Hilton is "lucid" and communicating with relatives, but has not yet been allowed to see his children, who are currently in the care of his mother under a temporary legal guardianship arrangement. He said Hilton's 72-hour involuntary psychiatric hold, filed under Florida's Baker Act, has now expired, and Hilton is being transferred to a new facility to continue treatment.

"However long that takes ... is however long that takes," Tom said of Hilton's recovery timeline.

The family also raised the possibility that sepsis-related psychosis contributed to the crisis. Hilton was hospitalized for severe sepsis in March 2026 after a stomach ulcer and perforation, a medical history that predates this incident.

Hilton built his career and a reported multimillion-dollar following on the gossip site PerezHilton.com starting in the mid-2000s, later expanding into podcasting and social media commentary. He has been publicly candid about health scares this year, including the sepsis hospitalization he documented for followers.

No arrest or criminal charge has been reported in connection with the livestream. Representatives for Hilton have not released an independent statement beyond the family's podcast remarks and an earlier note thanking followers for their support.

There is no timeline yet for when Hilton might return to public-facing work. His family says the priority for now is medical treatment and eventual reunification with his children.
